What is Academic Intervention?
It is classified into Special education and Remedial education Special education is given to the children who differs socially, mentally or Physically from the average to such an extent that they require modifications of usual school practices. Remedial education is typically used to target specific learning disabilities like Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia etc. and thus, are tailor made programme designed to close learning gaps.
How will a child benefit from it ?
Special education benefits the students from additional education services such as different approaches of teaching like specially adaptive teaching aids, a resource room. The curriculum will be modified according to the need of the child. Where as the remedial education will help children to overcome learning disabilities and catch up to their peers, there by promoting learning and independence among children.

Remedial education is given to a child after assessing grade level worksheets according to their age. The child is then given intervention in the areas where he/she is lagging through different strategies like

Case Study
A child with down syndrome having learning difficulties has been given Academic Intervention from the age of 6 years. Phonics, pre-math, basic math, comprehension, cognition skills, tailor made syllabus etc. are planned to improve his academics.
The child has shown a drastic improvement in his academics . He is able to read, understand and comprehend independently, math skills have also improved. At present the child is mainstreamed to grade 7th with a minimum support of remedial resource.
